How to Tell If You’ve Found Your Dream Home

If you’re in the market to buy a new home, you’ve probably started the initial process of online home searching. This is the fun part, where you spend hours endlessly scrolling through MLS listings, looking at photos, and critiquing every angle. You let your realtor know of a select few that you’ve fallen for, and they add a few that they believe are strong contenders as well. Walkthroughs are scheduled, and things are starting to get serious. In movies, the home buying process is often portrayed as one sweeping 360-degree pan of the buyers falling in house love followed by the words “we’ll take it!” On television shows, the process is even more dramatic, with couples seeming to have an endless list of demands and a never-ending budget for renovations. So how does a real-life, relatively normal person know if the house they have their eyes on is the one for them?

You’re Excited to Go Inside
When your realtor is pulling up to the home, are you giddy at the thought of what’s on the other side of the door? Or have you immediately noticed that you like the one across the street better? If the latter is true, you may need to continue your search.

You Envision Your Own Furniture
During your walkthrough, or even when scrolling through online photos, do you picture what your furniture will look like inside the home? How about holiday decorations? If you’re moving mental end tables and area rugs, this may be the home for you.

You Can’t Stop Bragging About It
Your family and friends are ready to call a ceasefire on your #dreamhome posts, and everyone from your local cashier to your veterinarian knows of your new venture. If this home has become your new obsession, let your realtor know you’re ready to take this relationship to the next level.
