Over the years, residents and tourists alike have taken to the water to see the sky alight with red, white, and blue on the Fourth of July. The event is sponsored by the Parkway Marina and is staffed by the Saunders Volunteer Firefighters, of whom benefit from donations from the adoring friends and families who clamor to view the spectacle year after year.
You can enjoy the show from the water, in which case the Smith Mountain Lake Safety Council asks that you observe no wake speeds starting at 8:30pm between the areas of Parkway Marina, Bernard’s Landing, Vista Point and Craddock Creek. For those who intend to partake in the event on dry land, it is requested that you head down to the Parkway Marina as the parking and other fees collected will go directly to support the firefighters who work tirelessly to put this event together.
It may be worth it to at least visit the events near the Parkway Marina as there is lots of fun to be had. Around 5:30 The Worx will begin their live show and children can partake in all of the fun activities constructed for their benefit, including The Parkway Marina Carousel. The “Kid Zone” also opens up at 5:30.
So head on down to Smith Mountain Lake on Saturday, July 4, 2015 to meet with friends and family, eat phenomenal food, enjoy the festivities, and watch the biggest show of the summer.
Happy Independence Day everyone!
