Home and Harvest at Huddleston’s Savoy-Lee Winery

Well, the month of August has begun and that means one thing at the Savoy-Lee winery: Harvest time!! Things are beginning to get busy at this award winning winery! The fall crush is when all the labors of spring and summer come to full fruit and marks the birth of this season’s wines!! You can feel the excitement building as the fall harvest is just weeks away!! That excitement can be felt all along the Bedford Wine Trail!
The wines produced from this harvest look to be as promising as the 2005 Johnson Mountain Picnic Series that won the Bronze at the 2006 Virginia’s Governors cup wine competition! It has completely SOLD OUT!! You can find other of their wines listed at the online tasting room! Just click on Start Shopping and you can see their complete wine list. Better yet, drop by for an unforgettable tasting. Our tasting room is open to the public Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Monday from 12pm – 6 pm or by appointment by calling (540) 297-9275

The 2006 wines are going to be released soon, so sign up now for the newsletter to receive pre-release dates! Before being released, our wines are available to sample in the tasting room. So far the 2006 are receiving rave reviews! The growing season in 2007 was remarkable and many cannot wait to see how those wines perform! Things just keep getting better at the Savoy-Lee!!

Planning Your Visit to Smith Mountain Lake

There is so much to do at Smith Mountain Lake and the surrounding area in Franklin County, Bedford County, and Pittsylvania County that planning your trip is a real advantage. So where do you start? Finding a place to stay should be the first order of business! There are cottages and full sized homes both on and off the water available to rent. You can also take advantage of the wonderful bed and breakfasts available in the area! Camping is popular, while renting a houseboat could be the ultimate way to enjoy the lake. Now it is time to decide what you are going to do on this visit. Is this a “get away from it all” vacation or a “do it all” vacation? This may actually effect where you want to stay, so you may want to have an idea of what you want to do before you finalize those accommodations. See – planning is helping already!! You can start in Moneta and drive the Blue Ridge Parkway to observe natural beauty and enjoy everything from hiking to mountain music programs. You can get in on guided tours or strike out on your own. If you are going to be on the water, make sure you are familiar with Virginia boating guidelines. Or book a sunset cruise of the lake on the Virginia Dare,!! Just sounds like heaven, doesn’t it!!

Treat Dad on the Trail!!

This weekend treat dad on the Bedford Wine Trail!! Spoil him with wine tasting at the Father’s Day Celebration at the Peak’s of Otter Winery on June 20th and 21st. If Dad loves the outdoors you can take him to Hickory Hills Vineyards and Winery where he can hike the beautiful Nature Trail, sample wines and even receive a free gift just for being the World’s Greatest Dad!!
Of course, the other wineries on the tour, including Savoy-Lee, Leo Grande, and White Rock Vineyards, offer a great afternoon of tasting in a picture postcard setting. If Dad has enough ties and golf balls, the Savoy-Lee is for sale and would make a great gift!
If your father is more into history or cultural events Bedford Wine Trail delivers!! You can bring him to visit the National D-day Monument or he can enjoy one of several interpretations of the natural and cultural history of the Southern Appalachians. If Dad’s passion is music, you can take him to enjoy World Renowned Guitarist Peter Fletcher at the Bower Center. There is so much to do on The Bedford Wine Trail that you may have to come back and indulge YOURSELF once you have shown Dad his special day!!!
As a trail traveler you can enjoy beautiful vistas of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Smith Mountain Lake. It doesn’t matter if you are interested in complete weekend getaway or just a day trip; Bedford Wine Trail has it all! The Bedford Wine Trail is a beautiful place conveniently located only four hours from Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia, three hours from Richmond, Virginia and Raleigh, North Carolina and only two hours from Greensboro, North Carolina.
